Norampac to
Expand Ontario
Box Plant
Canadian box maker
Norampac expects to begin
construction soon on a $1
million (Canadian), 15,000
sq ft expansion at its St.
Marys, Ontario, corrugated
packaging plant, The (
Strat-ford, Ontario) Beacon Herald
reports.
The expansion will eventually house a new $5.5 million flexo folder-gluer, with
installation likely to occur
by next summer, says Steve
Cousins, plant manager. He
says the Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries machine will help
improve the plant’s efficiency, flexibility and competitiveness, as well as expand its
market.
Changeovers between
jobs on the new machine can
be done in as little as two
minutes, Cousins says. Currently, it takes up to 30 minutes to set up a new job.
The plant currently produces about a billion square feet
of packaging each year.
