AF&PA REPORTS
Total Containerboard
Inventories Rise
Between June and July, total containerboard inventories (mills and box plants
combined) rose 8 percent to 2,159,900
tons, reports the American Forest &
Paper Association (AF&PA). However,
they’re down 7. 1 percent from a year
ago at this time.
Breaking this number down, linerboard
inventories at mills rose 12. 9 percent to
224,300 tons, medium inventories fell
4. 6 percent to 70,700 tons, and total
containerboard inventories at mills rose
8. 2 percent to 295,000 tons. Containerboard inventories at box plants increased
8 percent to 1,864,900 tons, a clear sign
that box business is slowing. It could be a
rough season for retailers this fall.
Total recovered paper stock fell 9. 6
percent during this same period to
900,800 tons, the AF&PA stated.
